The Types of Poker :
The top three most popular versions of Texas hold ‘em are : limit hold ‘em, no-limit hold ‘em and pot-limit hold ‘em.
Limit hold ‘em through history has been the most common type of Texas hold ‘em seen at casinos who offer live games in America. In limit hold ‘em, bets and raises that take place during the first two rounds of betting (pre-flop and flop) are required to be equal to the big blind; this figure is called the small bet. In the next two cycles of betting (the turn and the river), bets and raises have to be equal to twice the big blind; this sum is called the big bet.
The type of Hold ‘ Em most commonly found in the World Series of Poker (WSP) or other tournament styles of poker is the no-limit version of hold ‘ em. In no-limit hold ‘em, each players may bet or raise any number over the table’s set minimum, up to all of the casino chips the player has at the table (called an all-in bet or going ‘all-in’). The minimum raise is always equal to the big blind. If someone wishes to raise again, they must raise the minimum amount of the previous raise. As an example, if the big blind is $20 and there is a bet of $60 to a total of $80, the player who wishes to raise must raise at least $60 more for a total of $140. If a raise or re-raise causes the player to go all-in and does not equal the size of the previous raise, the initial raiser is not allowed to raise again. This only counts of course if there was a call prior to the re-raise. In pot-limit hold ‘em, the maximum raise is the current size of the pot (including the amount needed to call).
Typically, the casinos that offer Texas hold ‘em also allow the player to the left of the big blind to bet an elective live straddle, normally which is double the total of the big blind, which then acts as the big blind. If no-limit is being played, they may also allow multiple re-straddles, in any amount that would be a legal raise.
How Betting Is Structured :
Texas Hold ‘em Poker is commonly played with two types of bets : small and big blind – these are forced bets by two different players. Antes are forced bets by all players and could be used in addition to blinds, especially in advanced stages of tournament play. The dealer button is used to show the players who is in the dealer position; the dealer button rotates clockwise through the game after each hand (or round) is played, changing the position of the dealer and also who is playing the small and large blinds. The first blind (small blind) is placed by the player to the left of the player who is dealer and is usually equal to half of the second blind (big blind). The big blind, which is posted by the player clockwise of the smaller blind, is at leat equal to the minimum bet. In the case of tournament poker, the blind/ante structure regularly increased as the tournament continues to progress.
As a note : In some cases, the smaller blind is another fraction of a small bet, I.E. $15 is a typical small blind when the big blind is $20, and at some tables may use two l blinds that are equal to each other. The double-blind structure described above is a commonly used and is te\he more recent adoption to common rules.
In the case of only two players remaining, specific ‘head-to-head’ or ‘heads up’ rules are applied and the blinds which are posted are done so differently. In a example scenario, the player who is the dealer posts the small blind, while their opponent in turn places the big blind. The dealer acts right before the flop. Subsequently after the flop, the dealer plays last and proceeds to do so for the rest of the hand.
Showdowns and winning
Showdown – In the instance of two or more players remaining after the final betting round, a showdown may take place. On the showdown, each individual player plays the best possible poker hand he can create from the seven cards incorporating his two held cards and the five cards of the community. A active player is allowed to use both of his own two cards, only one, or none, to form his final five-card hand. Should a player utilize only the cards that exist in the community card pile, the player is said to be ‘playing the board’ and has no chances of winning, only splitting the pot as all other players at a minimum will have the same hand.
If the best hand held by one player is identical to another player, then the pot is subsequently split equally among them, with any additional chips going to the first player after the dealer button in clockwise order. It is quite common for players to have closely-valued, but not identically ranged hands. However, one must be extremely cautious while determining the best hand of the group; if the hand happens to involve fewer than five cards, (such as two pair or three of a kind), then kickers are used to settle ties. Note that the card’s mathematical rank is of sole importance; the suit values are completely irrelevant in Texas Hold ‘ em poker.
Folding – In the event of a player betting and all other players subsequently fold, then the remaining player is granted the pot but is not required to show his held cards.
